The heartwave system is used to perform a microvolt T-wave alternans (MTWA) test. A MTWA test requires an elevated heart rate to provide an accurate result. The required heart rate of 110-120 beats per minute is achieved utilizing exercise as performed on a treadmill in a standard stress test. The heart rate can also be elevated through the use of pharmaceuticals or by pacing, during an electrophysiologic study, or using a pace maker.

Heat Exchange Coil is a stainless steel coil. It is mounted to the bottom of the motor unit and is connected to two black colored posts. The coil is tied to the posts using two pieces of wire. Heat exchange coil is mounted within the heat exchange chamber such that a coolant inlet portion and a coolant outlet portion are disposed exteriorly to the main body.
