Bone rongeurs are used for gouging out bone. It can be used to open a window in bone, often in the skull. It is used in neurosurgery to expose areas for operation. It is a strongly constructed instrument with a sharp-edged, scoop-shaped tip.
A bone staple has two parallel legs connected by a cross member. A cross member has apertures dimensioned to tightly receive the legs. A ligament placed between the securing member and head of the staple is securely retained after the stable is driven home irrespective of loosening of the staple from the bone.
