The portable defibrillator operates on rechargeable batteries and therefore make use of DC-DC converters for stepping up the voltage required for charging the storage capacitor. The maximum energy delivered by portable defibrillator is generally 300 ohm delivered into 50 ohm load which is equivalent to about 400 Ws of stored energy. Since the patient impedance can vary considerably, it has a strong effect on defibrillation effectiveness.

A portable fluoroscope utilizes a hingedly mounted, light shielded, fluorescent screen positioned in front of a look-through radiation shield. A leaded glass eyepiece positioned within the radiation shield is used as a radiation resistant viewing port to observe the image produced on the fluorescent screen by an irradiated object. The use of a relatively small piece of lead glass in the viewing port of the present device in comparison to the use of a lead-glass plate the size of the fluorescent screen, which is immediately adjacent thereto in the prior art, has resulted in a substantial reduction in weight and cost for the same degree of radiation protection.

Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method of measuring hemoglobin saturation. Being non-invasive, it does not require a blood sample to obtain a result. It uses spectrophotometry to measure hemoglobin saturation. It uses two wave lengths of light, one red and one infrared. Pulse oximeters use two light emitting diodes to transmit light through a capillary bed to a silicone photodiode detector.

Pulse Oximetry Device is a medical device that indirectly measures the oxygen saturation of a patient's blood (as opposed to measuring oxygen saturation directly through a blood sample) and changes in blood volume in the skin, producing a photoplethysmograph. It is attached to a medical monitor to see a patient's oxygenation at all times. Most monitors also display the heart rate. Portable, battery operated pulse oximeters are also available for home blood oxygen monitoring. A blood-oxygen monitor displays the percentage of arterial hemoglobin in the oxyhemoglobin configuration. Acceptable normal ranges are from 95 to 100 percent, although values down to 90% are common. For a patient breathing room air, at not far above sea level, an estimate of arterial pO2 can be made from the blood-oxygen monitor SpO2 reading. A pulse oximeter is a particularly convenient non-invasive measurement instrument and has a pair of small light-emitting diodes (LEDs) facing a photodiode through a translucent part of the patient's body, usually a fingertip or an earlobe. One LED is red, with wavelength of 660 nm, and the other is infrared, 905, 910, or 940 nm. Absorption at these wavelengths differs significantly between oxyhemoglobin and its deoxygenated form, therefore from the ratio of the absorption of the red and infrared light the oxy/deoxyhemoglobin ratio can be calculated. The absorbance of oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin is the same (isosbestic point) for the wavelengths of 590 and 805 nm.

Pulse meter is used to measure the blood flow rate in the finger or earlobe by shining light into the skin and sensing changes in light density in the photoelectric sensor; the pulsemeter then calculates and display the rate in bpm.
