A CO oximetry is an instrument that is able to measure all hemoglobin variants and therefore determines oxygen saturation as a fraction of the total hemoglobin. It measures hemoglobin saturation using spectrophotometry. Each hemoglobin variant has a different absorption spectrum for red and infrared light. By using multiple wavelengths, the concentration of hemoglobin variant may be determined. It requires a blood sample to measure the HbO2 and all of the Hb variants.

It is available with a citrate concentration of 0.109 mol/l (3.2%) or 0.129 mol/l (3.8%). Coagulation tubes are used for examination of coagulation parameters.
