Injecting of air into a blood vessel is undesirable, as it may cause an air embolism; preventing embolisms by removing air from the syringe is the reason for the familiar image of holding a syringe upside down, tapping it, and expelling a small amount of liquid before an injection into the bloodstream.

Medical tape is a form of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. It is used in medicine and first aid as a bandage to hold a dressing onto a wound. It is also known as surgical tape.

Generally, Medical thermometers are mercury-in-glass thermometers used for measuring human body temperature, with the tip of the thermometer being inserted either into the mouth (oral temperature), under the armpit or into the rectum via the anus (rectal temperature). The mercury filled medical thermometers consist of a bulb containing mercury attached to a small tube. As the temperature rises, the mercury expands and flows up the tube. The temperature is obtained by reading the scale inscribed on the side of the thermometers. Other kinds of medical thermometers exist such as the tympanic thermometer that measures the temperature of the tympanum by infrared measurement, and the band thermometer that are applied to the patient's brow.

Medical towels are mainly used for cleaning and absorbing fluids in and around injuries, wounds, abrasions and punctures. It is also used to provide clean area for application and emergency utensils from first aid kit, quick, clean and disposable environment in a dirty area.
